Kathy Cook, journalist and author of Stolen Angels: The Kidnapped Girls of Uganda. The presentation will look at the big picture of child soldiers in Uganda, with a focus on the increased trauma of girl soldiers, who in addition to engaging in combat generally must also
serve as sex slaves to their military commanders. She will focus on the struggle of the over 40,000 children abducted into the Lord's Resistance Army, a Northern Ugandan rebel group whose leaders are now indicted by the International Criminal Court but remain at
large.
Richard Mclure, PhD: a professor and former Acting Dean in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. He holds a Ph.D. in international development education from Stanford University, an M.A. in international affairs from Carleton University, and a graduate teacher certificate from the University of London, U. K. His presentation will focus on the difficulties confronting former female soldiers (as well as girls and women in general) in so-called post-conflict situations. He will also discuss other aspects pertaining to the "making & unmaking" of child soldiers in Sierra Leone.
The discussion will provide the opportunity for dialogue with the speakers on a diversity of issues relating to child soldiers. Join us!
